Instruction For Authors

   


1. Submission Regulations

1. Every writer of dissertation should be a member of the Association.
2. Thesis should be written in Korean or English.
3. English Abstract in 200 words and English keywords should be prepared.
4. Title of thesis and name of the writer should be given both in Korean and English.
5. One original print and three of printed copies for evaluation including drawings, tables, pictures and etc should be submitted.
6. In the original print, name of author, organization that the writer belongs to, membership and contact (phone number, fax number and email address) should be included, however, it should be deleted from evaluation copies for fair judgment.
7. Writer should pay 100,000 KRW as submission fee per thesis.
8. Overall pages of thesis should not be more than 8 printed pages including drawings, tables and pictures. If it is longer, the writer should pay extra 20,000 KRW for each 2 pages, however, even in this case, maximum length is 12 pages in total.
9. Submitted thesis should be a new writing that is not published in other publications.
10. The author transfer copyrights of submitted thesis to the Korean Association for Spatial Structures.
11. It is published quarterly on March 15th, June 15th, September 15th, and December 15th each year.


2. Dissertation writing guideline

1. Purpose
This dissertation submission and writing guideline has purpose of deciding method of thesis submission and writing for Journal of he Korean Association for Spatial Structures (hereinafter Journal.

2. Submission guideline
2.1 Authors
Among authors of dissertation, the first author should be regular member or student member of the Association. Yet, if the first author is a student member, more than one co-authors should be the regular member.

2.2 Content and publication type
It accepts original papers of research articles, technical articles, peer-reviewed papers, editorial, reviews, book reviews and educational materials.

2.2.1 Research paper
Research papers should be thesis with technical outcome and study based on experiments or theory with originality that achieved theoretical or experimental research outcome related to spatial structure. Also, it should be dissertation that has not or is not planning to be published in other publications.

2.2.2 Discussion and reply to discussion
When someone would like to raise questions about published thesis and try to supplement or raise opposite opinion or materials about research method and result of the original writer, it can be submitted as discussion and the original author should reply to it. Discussion should be submitted within 3 months from publication date of that dissertation and contents will be published with reply from the original writer in journal. Selection and management of discussion is handled by the Editorial Committee.

2.3 Language and declaration
Dissertation should be written in Korean or English. Adopted words from foreign language should be written in Korean and if meaning should be written as it is difficult to understand, original word should be written together with its meaning within brackets "()".At this time, English should be written in lowercase, where abbreviations or proper noun can write its first letter or whole letter in capital letters.

2.4 Number of pages
Total number of pages should not exceed 8 pages with prints including drawings, tables and pictures. If it is longer, the writer should pay extra 20,000 KRW for each 2 pages, however, even in this case, maximum length is 12 pages in total. Discussion and reply to discussion should not be longer than 2 pages each.

2.5 Print papers
Submission should be written by using Hangul word processor, printed on one side of A4 papers. Space between the lines should be Double Space for convenient evaluation and proofreading.

2.6 Submission
The author should submit one original print and three copies for evaluation. In the original print, author's membership, name of author, organization that the writer belongs to, position, degree, major and the author's qualification should be printed, however, it should be deleted from evaluation copies for fair judgment. If publication is decided, research paper should submit another file made with word processor but general submission should submit Its soft copy together with its hard copies.

2.7 Copyrights and range of author's responsibilities
2.7.1 Individual copyrights of submitted papers of the journal are onto the author, while the Association has editing copyrights and publication rights. Therefore, author should take responsibilities over contents in the submission.
2.7.2 Since the author has responsibilities over copyrights issue that comes by quoting someone else's writings, quotations should be carefully done.
2.7.3 For expressions or errors made in contents after publication of the journal, correction paper can be submitted within 6 months since the publication in order to publish its errors in correction article.
2.7.4 It should be written in the dissertations which are related to the law of life ethics and safety that 'This dissertation has passed the bioethics committee of Korean Association for Spatial Structures.'


3. Dissertation writing skills

3.1 Elements of dissertation
In principle, dissertation should be written in order of title, author, abstract, keywords, introduction, body, conclusion, acknowledgement, symbol list, references and appendix. Details of each elements are as follows.

3.2 Writing method of each element
3.2.1 Title
Title of dissertation should simply and clearly express contents of the dissertation. Papers written in Korean should have English title underneath Korean title and English thesis should have Korean title above English title. Each word of English title should start with capital letter except for preposition and conjunction, while subtitle is not recognized.


3.2.2 Authors
Name of authors should be written underneath the title, and name in Korean should be written above and full name in English should be placed underneath. For name in English, surname should put first and then first name should come. Information such as author's membership, work place, title and contact (phone number, fax number and email address) should be written both in Korean and English on the first page as footnote on left bottom side.


3.2.3 Abstract
This is a simple abstract describing what dissertation is about and should clearly describe purpose, contents and result of the study in one paragraph. It should be written as English Abstract, and should not exceed more than 200 words.

3.2.4 Keywords
Keywords that becomes core of thesis should be selected in English and at least 3 words and maximum of 7 words should be selected. It should be written underneath the English abstract.

3.2.5 Introduction
Introduction should clearly and simply written explaining background, purpose, range and methodology of the study, so that readers can understand background of study even without any help from other dissertations.

3.2.6 Body
Body should explain basic hypothesis, basic theory, new theory, and development of methodology. If it is an experimental study, its method and contents should be written in details and prove legitimacy of the study by comparing it with other literatures.

1) Classifying chapters, paragraphs, lines and clauses
Chapters, paragraphs, lines and clauses in the body should be written as follows. If titles of chapters, paragraphs, lines and clauses are in English, it should be written in the same way as dissertation title. When titles use both Korean and English, it should be translated into Korean as much as possible, except for inevitable cases, and if it needs declaration in English, declaration should be included in the body.

2) Writing numerical formula and symbols
All numbers and various symbols used in the body should be symbols that are popularly used in general purposes, and when necessary, tables for explaining symbols should be provided. Fractions should be in form of" (e.g.) 3/4"as much as possible, while number with more than 3 digits should have positional representation (,) for every 3 digits. Numerical formulas should be unified in simple forms, so development or solution part should be minimized and its contents should be explained in paragraphs. Do not include numerical paragraphs in the same line with words, but instead, write in separate lines. When a symbol is first written, its definition should be explained in sentences and it should be written in same font with numerical expressions and sentences. Also, same symbols should not have more than one meaning in itself. Number of numerical formulashould be numbered in consecutive numbers for the whole dissertation and it should be written on the right-side end of the formula. However, when similar numerical formula is used later, you can put it under same number, but write English alphabet behind the number to sort it out.

3) Units
All units must be SI Unit. When different system of unit is used, SI unit value should be stated in brackets.

4) Tables, drawings and pictures
(1) Drawings and pictures should be clear and sharp original print (use print on photographic paper as much as possible), not copied ones, and size should consider actual printed size in hard copy. When its size is too big, scale down the size, but it should be still clear to see. In this case, if resolution of thedrawing or picture is decreased and influenced on overall quality of the thesis, publication might be canceled.
(2) Drawings, pictures and tables should be numbered consecutively. Title and explanation of drawings and pictures should be written underneath it, while table should have its title and explanation on upper center side of the table. Note that all titles, explanation and contents of drawings and tables should be all written in English, and only the first letter of English sentence should be uppercase. Moreover, comments on symbols written in tables should be placed underneath the table when necessary.
(3) If drawings and tables are stated in one set, each drawing and table should be numbered as (a), (b), (c) and etc., to declare what they are and then add explanations.

5) Annotation method
Principally, all annotations should not be stated, however, when necessary, write consecutive numbers as" 1), 2)"or" 1)~3)"on the top right side of that word. If there is quotation in the body, it should have quotation mark "( ........") and its source should be stated together in same style as normal annotation.

3.2.7 Conclusion
The most important and valuable outcome of the study should be arranged and provided. Also, write value, contribution and usage method of the study.

3.2.8 Acknowledgement
Expressing gratitude for financial support or academic advice that are received for the study can be done by stating name of the person or department, however, excessive expression is restricted.

3.2.9 Symbol Arrangement
Symbols used in the thesis should be summarized and arranged in alphabetical order, then it should be printed in front of the reference.

3.2.10 References
When quotation is made from references in the body, referred content should have number of that reference on the right upper side as superscript, written within brackets. When the author of reference is in English, just state surname, but if the author is Korean, author's full name should be written. If more than 2 authors wrote the referred literature, just indicate name of the first author. References should be listed in the order of quotation written in the body.
1) Dissertation from academic journal
Author," Title", Name of Journal (English title should written in Italic), Volume, Number, Year, Referred page


2) Books
Author," Title", Publisher, Place of publication, Year, Overall number of pages


3) Reports
Author, "Title of report", Number of report, Publisher, Place of publication, Year, Overall number of pages

4) Conference Journal
Author, "Title", Name of Conference (English title should written in Italic), Host association or institution, Volume, Number, Year, Referred page

5) Thesis
Author," Title", Name of Degree, University, Year, Overall number of pages

3.2.11 Appendix
Materials or detailed explanation of numerical formula's solutions that can supplement contents in the body can be included as appendix and the author should mention about it in the body.


4. Dissertation Evaluation Process

4.1 Member of editorial committee will recommend nominees for peer reviewers to the Chairman and the Chairman will request the evaluation to them.

4.2 Submitted dissertations will be evaluated by 3 or more referees. In principle, a referee will be selected from standing member of the committee, however, when necessary due to characteristics of the study, a reviewer from outside the committee can be invited.

4.3 udgment of dissertation evaluation is decided as "to be published,""re-evaluation after revision," and" cannot be published."Papers that are decided as" to be published"will be divided into" publish without no revision,"and" publish with revision,"while" cannot be published"will be classified as "re-evaluation after revision"and "to be returned."So "re-evaluation after revision"means the author can supplement its contents and submit again.

4.4 When a dissertation is given to 3 referees for evaluation, it must get at least" publish with revision" from all of them. Authors of papers with "cannot be published"with condition of "re-evaluation after revision"can ask for re-evaluation to same referee, however, if it gets "re-evaluation after revision"from all 3 referees, the paper cannot be published without any review. Yet, the revised paper cannot get" re-evaluation after revision"with the same reason as the first paper. If only 1 referee decide"s cannot be published"with the condition of" to be returned,"the author can request evaluation to another reviewer. But even in this case, if 2 and more referees make decision as" to be returned,"the paper will be returned without any re-evaluation.

4.5 Evaluation payment will be made to referees for each submission.
